Finally...I post

For about a month now I've been trying to think of a creative first post for my blog. However, I've come up with no funny way to introduce myself before I plunge in.  Anyways, probably most everybody who reads this will already know me, so what is really the point of introducing myself?

So Here I Plunge.

Earlier this week I was looking at bokeh. Bokeh is basically the circles of light that you see in an out-of-focus area of a picture. Here's an example:

I had been wanting to do something with bokeh, but to do it you need a camera lens with a large aperture. The wide-angle lens that I normally use goes to F4 (which isn't that large), so my attempts at bokeh weren't working all so well. I decided to look through the lenses that my dad used for his film camera back in the day, even though I've looked through them before and found nothing that I thought was very good. Of course, then I had no idea what aperture had to do with light and depth of field then.  I tried on the lenses one by one again and found...

Mr. Portrait Lens.

This lens goes to F1.7 (yes, 1.7 is larger than 4 when you're talking about aperture). And so now I have a lens that gives nice depth to the pictures, and takes good pictures in low light. It also makes you zoom with your feet since it doesn't actually have zoom, but that's fine since I hardly ever use zoom anyways.

I've been having fun with this lens.

My mom and I went to see two sweet brand-new babies yesterday. I got a lot of enjoyment out of it because I was able to hold both of them and see what this lens can do in a dark room!

Here's Lyza...

And here's Daniel...

(Aren't they so adorable? CTW is awesome, not just for its babies, although that contributes to its
greatness quite a bit)

Here's a couple other pictures I've taken while experimenting with my new-found lens. This lens, I've learned, is great for close-up pictures because it makes your subject really stand out.

Well, here's the end of my first post. Hopefully I'll have more things to post as the Christmas season comes up and as I try out my new-found lens!
